Keeper of the Sea
Eelgrass plays a vital role in marine habitats. Besides sheltering young fish, invertebrates and spawned eggs, it is a source of food for many. This beautiful seagrass also improves the water quality by producing oxygen, filtering pollution, as well as storing greenhouse gases. Furthermore, it traps sediment and reduces wave action, which allows a stable substrate to form, reducing shoreline erosion. So many roles for such a delicate grass.
