She is one of the last. A monument from the past. I slept behind her one night and awoke early, at sunrise, surrounded by a herd of grazing deer. The last time I went back to my small hometown, the two grain elevators that announced the town were gone. As a child I played around them. I put pennies on the tracks waiting in anticipation for the trains to flatten them. I sat in the dust cried.
